21:12:25 |
shebirths |
Sure! :) |
|
21:13:33 |
shebirths |
She Births is about Birth as a Spiritual
Rite of Passage, and the importance of
our Birth choices. It is about Birth as
a transformational opportunity, and a
journey seperate from the one a woman
takes into motherhood... |
|
21:13:41 |
shebirths |
Hard to sum up 315 pages.:) |
|

sorta like the \spiritual midwifery\" of
the 2000s?" |

\experts\"." |
|
21:14:31 |
Webmama_Tina |
ah |
|
21:14:37 |
Webmama_Tina |
Mz, go ahead with your question |
|
21:14:41 |
MzFrancis |
How do you encourage a woman you know
(or yourself) to give natural birth a
try? |
|
21:14:54 |
shebirths |
Hi Nanci.:) Thanks for coming....Let's
see. |
|
21:15:53 |
shebirths |
First of all, I think one of the main
reasons a woman would choose not to give
birth naturally, is because she doesn't
know what she is losing/missing. So many
woman don't understand what they will be
gaining from a natual Birth, because
they've only |
|
21:16:31 |
shebirths |
seen birth as a physical process, When
in fact it is 5 elemental (Physical,
Intellectual, Spiritual, Psychological
and Emotional). |
|
21:16:57 |
shebirths |
When women understand this, they choose
the empowering path, rather than
allowing themselves to be rescued. |
|
21:17:32 |
shebirths |
With all 5 elements engaged, a woman is
at her most prepared for transformative
energy! And amazing things happen.:) |
|
21:17:54 |
shebirths |
The Veil between physical and spiritual
is very think during and immediately
after birth.... |
|
21:17:55 |
MzFrancis |
I agree. |
|
21:18:09 |
shebirths |
but drugs, loud lights, noise, lack if
choice and power.... |
|
21:18:16 |
shebirths |
it robs women of this opportunity. |
|
21:18:34 |
shebirths |
But they won't know this unless we
create language to communicate it. |
|
21:18:41 |
shebirths |
:) |
|
21:19:00 |
MzFrancis |
 |
|
21:19:16 |
shebirths |
:p |
|
21:19:23 |
MzFrancis |
? |
|
21:19:34 |
Webmama_Tina |
go ahead Mz |
|
21:20:01 |
MzFrancis |
Do you think that women in general are
used to being rescued in their lives,
which is why they choose to be rescued
during labor? |
|

|
21:21:06 |
shebirths |
Oooh....that's a good question! I think
many things play into this. Yes, I think
it is partially a gender-role issue.
Most of the decision-makers on
committees are men, most OBs are men,
and the women have been taught with
men.... |
|
21:21:26 |
shebirths |
But I think it's also about a confusion
in the feminist community. |
|
21:21:59 |
shebirths |
Many F's believe childbirth pains are
oppressive, so they feel women should be
stopped from experiencing it. |
|
21:22:31 |
Webmama_Tina |
F's=feminists? |
|
21:22:36 |
shebirths |
Personally, I think if women really knew
the resources they had inside
themselves...natural childbirth would
only be the beginning..:) This is
something only we can do... |
|
21:22:51 |
shebirths |
Oooh-sorry...as a feminist
myself...yes.:) F=feminists:) |
|
21:22:59 |
Webmama_Tina |
ok just wanting to clarify :) |
|
21:23:03 |
shebirths |
Sure! |
|
21:23:46 |
shebirths |
Women are powerful, and we have only
just begun to tap into it. When we
discover our true ability and learn to
harness the opportunities in
Birth....watch out World! |

21:25:56 |
MzFrancis |
What are some basic ways, both during
labor and out, that women can learn to
empower themselves and ttranscend the
pain in their lives? |
|
21:26:44 |
shebirths |
Well, first we need to re-learn pain. |
|
21:26:56 |
shebirths |
We think pain = bad. |
|
21:27:08 |
shebirths |
But really, pain is just pain until we
assign a response to it. |
|
21:27:43 |
shebirths |
This is why athletes work the crap out
of their bodies, and can't wait to go
back for more...they have re-assigned
pain as a good and positive
feeling...not something to run from. |
|
21:28:07 |
shebirths |
I think, personally...that women need to
learn to manage their monthly moons
without medication (if at all possible) |
|
21:28:26 |
MzFrancis |
You are good!!! |
|
21:28:40 |
shebirths |
To learn to center themselves and
identify the cause of their headaches
instead of reaching for the tylenol.... |
|
21:28:48 |
shebirths |
Not that I haven't reached for it
myself;) |
|
21:29:11 |
shebirths |
But I think if we consciously work to
increase our ability to manage pain,
then Birth sensations are not so
frightening... |
|
21:29:23 |
shebirths |
Thanks Nanci.:) |
|
21:29:55 |
MzFrancis |
You have taught me something that I've
never even considered before. Thank
you! |
|
21:30:02 |
shebirths |
My pleasure.:) |

|
21:31:19 |
shebirths |
Can I say something else? |
|
21:31:26 |
Webmama_Tina |
absolutely! |
|
21:32:21 |
shebirths |
I think that we as women forget that
what we say to one another about Birth
impacts Generations of young women. We
are the great story-tellers. The ones
who keep the family tales going...and
although it's a dying art in many ways,
it still happens when it |
|
21:32:55 |
shebirths |
comes to Birth. We need to be honest
about our experiences, but we need to
tell our tales as a 5 elemental
process-not just as a physical one. |
|
21:33:34 |
Webmama_Tina |
its very hard to approach discussing
birth with someone you don't know where
they're at in their story...where their
beliefs and feelings are in their
experience |
|
21:33:39 |
shebirths |
By including all (or at least some!) of
these in our sharing, we empower women
to think underneath what the media/drs/textbooks/what
to expect books....are saying. Because
what they are saying is misleading, and
lying by omission. |
|
21:34:07 |
shebirths |
true, I understand what you're
saying...however....this is the great
lie among women.: |
|
21:34:54 |
shebirths |
We are not responsible for another's
interpretation of our story. We are only
responsibile to share it in a loving,
empowering, female-centered way.:) |
|
21:35:24 |
shebirths |
Women are so good at being careful about
what we say. But all this Tip-toeing is
killing women, harming children, and
causing great damage to the female
experience in the world. |
|
21:35:32 |
Webmama_Tina |
i find it particularly difficult being
that my stories are quite sad...i am
less inclined to wanting to share |
|
21:36:09 |
MzFrancis |
? |
|
21:36:18 |
shebirths |
But you have so much to offer!!!! You
have wisdom others can't understand. You
KNOW what you missed, and we need sooo
many more women like you standing at the
gate, pointing out the potholes and
extending their wisdom! |
|
21:36:20 |
Webmama_Tina |
and yet i do make it known that i was
very scarred emotionally from my first
birth's unnecessary c-section because i
don't want women to think you're
supposed to be \ok\" with it just
because you got a healthy baby out of
it" |
|
21:36:28 |
shebirths |
Yes. |
|
21:36:41 |
shebirths |
The journey through birth is seperate
from the one you take into motherhood. |
|
21:37:22 |
Webmama_Tina |
read a fantastic story about those
feelings...it really made me feel ok,
finally, with my feelings...have you
read it? the one by gretchen humphries? |
|
21:37:23 |
shebirths |
That's why a surrogate mother can do
what she does...and why a mother who
adopts is still a mother...and women who
lose their babies late in the pregnancy
often want to Birth them. |
|
21:37:27 |
Webmama_Tina |
i'm trying to remember the name |
|
21:37:44 |
shebirths |
No....but it sounds fantastic! |
|

21:38:31 |

its called \you should be
grateful\"...and i share it with
everyone that i know that had a
c-section, just in case she feels teh
same" |
|
21:38:39 |
Webmama_Tina |
its brilliant |
|
21:38:43 |
shebirths |
Oh-it's also why women who birth
stillborn babies naturally, while deeply
grieving also have a sense of
celebration for their journey...and why
women coerced into C-sections love their
babies, but grieve their Birth loss.... |
|
21:38:46 |
shebirths |
I can't wait to read it! |

I'll copy the link right now.. |

Mz, you had another question? |
|
