16:19:50 paulfleissmd WHAT YOUR DOCTOR MIGHT NOT TELL YOU ABOUT CIRCUMCISION

16:22:09 MOD_Angie oh yeah, ok ignore me
16:24:15 Webmama_Tina are there more books dr fleiss?
16:25:22 paulfleissmd any questions or do you want me to just ramble on?  Just two books
16:25:49 debbiej74 ?
16:25:53 MOD_Angie My question involves my 28 month old daughter......she is still waking every 2-3 hrs and the only thing that gets her back to sleep is nursing, any suggestions?  She is a very determined little girl, so she gets mad if I don't let her nurse.  I don't prefer to let her cry herself back to sleep either.  :-(
16:26:32 Webmama_Tina no worries dr fleiss :)  moving along to the next question...when you are done answering a question you can just say something like next question" and angie will cue up the next person"
16:27:02 paulfleissmd Nurse her back to sleep  It will soon pass t
16:27:47 paulfleissmd There are many things to do to prepare her to sleep all night
16:29:00 vonnie hey everybody!
16:29:29 MOD_Angie Every night before bed, she has a bath, and then we go upstairs to nurse to sleep in bed.  She is so different than my oldest, she is a very stubborn girl and very determined.  She is a handful for sure!
16:29:39 MOD_Angie but she then wakes a couple hours later
16:30:05 Webmama_Tina hi vonnie, glad you made it...  Friendly Reminder: Please do not post unless it is your turn to ask a question. If you have a question, please post a single ?" and you'll be added to the queue. Have your question ready when your name is called. THANKYOU! :)"
16:30:23 paulfleissmd Why does she wake up? probably not hunger and probably not to just prevent you from sleeping she probably is dreaming --you watch her REM sleep

16:31:48 MOD_Angie I do notice when she is falling into deep sleep, she twitches, is that normal?
16:32:12 MOD_Angie I need to be more constitent with the lavendar for sure
16:32:25 MOD_Angie consistent*
16:33:44 Milakais ?
16:34:47 doulasarah Hello?
16:35:27 paulfleissmd Watch her eyes and then she might chuckle, laugh, talk, move in her sleep but sometimes she will startle and wake up--probably having a dream of something that happened before going to sleep--maybe a big dog, a frightening scene on TV or some other scarry thing
16:35:27 Webmama_Tina hello doulasarah, we are chatting with dr paul fleiss today...if you'd like to get in line to ask a question just post a single question mark. :)
16:36:17 MOD_Angie what do I do when I notice these things?  What about if I am asleep when it happens?
16:36:59 gentlestrength ?
16:37:38 paulfleissmd Sleep is a difficult issue and does not deserve a simple answer-- one really needs a more complete history
16:38:35 paulfleissmd Just be there for her when she awakens and is frightened
16:40:41 paulfleissmd when everyone closes their eyes to sleep they want to feel safe and secure and babies feel best when they are in mother's arms
16:42:02 MOD_Angie ok thank you, everything you said makes sense, I am keep an eye on her and become more consistent with her bath oil and hold her tight at night (my only time to cuddle a toddler)
16:42:24 feebee How long does a child receive immunological benefits from breastfeeding? In other words, how much milk does a child need to consume to get those benefits (like an older toddler nursing 3x a day, say)? (sorry 2yo needs me didn't want to hold you all up)
16:42:36 MOD_Angie upcoming chatter(s):   feebee   Quirky   debbiej74    Milakais    gentlestrength
16:44:25 paulfleissmd mothers milk is always protective for the baby--nursing 3X a day is very good for a toddler
16:45:59 paulfleissmd Mothers milk has hundreds of immunological ingrediants
16:47:10 paulfleissmd WHO   said a million babies die every year because they are not breastfed
16:48:20 Sustainer ?
16:48:41 Webmama_Tina when you are done answering a question, dr fleiss, you can just say next question" for us to move on to the next person. :)"
16:49:09 paulfleissmd It is very difficult to put a number of ounces a baby needs to recieve protection but the more the better
16:49:30 paulfleissmd next question
16:49:31 Quirky How do we get doctors to step up to the plate on informed consent for circumcision? Too many doctors only say Great that you're not circing, it's not necessary" AFTER the parents have announced their decision to keep their baby intact."
16:49:43 MOD_Angie upcoming chatter(s):  Quirky   debbiej74    Milakais    gentlestrength    Sustainer
16:49:48 Webmama_Tina 10 more minutes in this chat. :)
16:49:52 MOD_Angie At this time, the queue is full. Questions already in line will be asked, but we cannot take anymore today. Sorry for the inconvenience.
16:52:14 paulfleissmd Let them watch the Penn & Teller video and remind the to do No harm.  No physician has any business performing a circumcumcision
16:52:52 paulfleissmd sory for the mis-spelling
16:53:44 paulfleissmd invite them to join NOCIRC or DOC

17:00:15 Webmama_Tina well our time is up, dr fleiss do you have time for 3 more questions or shall we wrap it up?

17:00:53 paulfleissmd OK three more
17:00:57 Webmama_Tina great thanks :)
17:01:19 MOD_Angie debbie, ur turn to ask ur question
17:01:20 debbiej74 First, I just wanted to say hi from a former patient.  Our family moved away in January and we miss you.  Now my question--are you aware of the proposed Male Genital Mutilation bill (currently without a Congressional sponsor)?
17:01:29 debbiej74 Do you think it will go anywhere?
17:02:10 debbiej74 And secondly, what will it take for the AAP to come out with a policy against circ as opposed to their current neutral policy?
17:02:43 paulfleissmd I am not aware of it  It might go any place now but if we keep trying it will
17:02:58 debbiej74 Here's a link to a story about it  http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/04/08/colb.circumcision/index.html
17:03:45 paulfleissmd I can visualize the day when NO more genital mutilation is done by anyone
17:03:59 MOD_Angie that would be peaceful!!!
17:05:45 paulfleissmd The AAP will follow what the people want.  It is for all of us to stand up and say DO NO HARM AND STOP HURTING BABIES
17:06:06 paulfleissmd NEXT
17:06:08 gentlestrength our dentist recently told us that our 4yo's cavities wer eprobably from nursing until she was 3.  his recommendation to us was to quit nursing my 2 year old son.  we're not listening of course, but he says that he is in line with AAP's recommendations.
17:06:08 MOD_Angie upcoming chatter(s): gentlestrength   Sustainer
17:06:34 gentlestrength i told him WHO's recommendations and told him also that AAP doen'st say to STOP at 12 months, it's AT LEAST for 12 months and he thought i was CRAZY
17:06:45 gentlestrength i want to officially complain. do you know who i would complain to?
